Beginning Origami

All the basic origami shapes will be covered including the crane. Students will leave with ability to make simple objects and understand most folding instructions and diagrams.

Intermediate Origami

This class is for those who have done Origami and want to learn more. Use of fancy papers and display ideas will be discussed.
The traditional frog and lily, intermediate geometric folding , a mask and a dragon or fish will be some of the models to choose from.

       BASIC Landscape Pastels

Local pastel artist Frances Boyd explains her technique to achieving successful landscape pastel paintings. Blending of colors will be covered and Frances will show you how to use reference photographs to create pastel paintings of local landscapes and plants. All materials are provided, just arrive with a positive attitude and a sense of play!

Capturing the Light of the Southwest in Watercolor

Watercolorist Sharon Walden Hillard shares her secrets for capturing the charm and light of the Southwest. Basic watercolor skills will be utilized as Sharon shows you how she produces beautiful paintings. The student will learn how to “see” the light and color that is unique to the high desert. Use of classroom materials are included in class fee.

Shodo: Japanese Brush Painting   Instructor: Robert Sohaku Flagg
Thursday July 10th, 17th, or 24th

These classes will focus on the aesthetics of the body and mind through the practice of painting. Reverend Sohaku Flagg, a Zen Buddhist priest will lead the class. The program will include Tai Chi, and Zen meditation as well as painting. All skill levels are encouraged and continued practice is suggested.

THE FINE ART OF COLLAGE
with Erica Elliott

Erica will teach students the fine art of collage—learning to work with beautiful decorative handmade papers on canvas board. The principles of placement and careful material selection will be covered. Texture, pattern and color groups will be utilized to create an exciting compostion. Let your imagination run wild as you explore shape to shape relationships in torn paper collage. Experimentation and self expression will be encouraged. Use of classroom materials included in fee. Handmade collage packs may be purchased seperately.

 

 

Exploring Watercolors
 with Erica Elliott
Saturday July 12th, 19th or 26th

Erica will help students explore the art of watercolor. The basics techniques of layering transparent glazes of color to build tonal quality and shapes will be covered. Students will develop a knowledge of basic skills and learn control of the medium. Use of classroom materials is included in fee.
